Improving the timeliness and equity of preschool childhood vaccinations
Highlighting key findings, including positive impacts on MMR vaccination rates, challenges of sustainability and implications for the delivery of childhood immunisation programmes.
After more than a decade of low measles immunisation uptake, and subsequent outbreaks in the UK, interventions to improve preschool immunisation coverage in primary care are urgently needed. There is strong evidence to support a robust ‘call/ recall system’, which invites eligible persons for vaccinations on a regular through the primary care system. This seminar presents findings from the implementation and evaluation of such a programme in North East London.
During this hybrid seminar findings from the implementation and evaluation of a quality improvement programme across North East London will be presented. The mixed methods study aimed to explore whether timeliness and equity of preschool childhood vaccinations improved. This event will highlight key findings, including positive impacts on MMR vaccination rates, challenges of sustainability and implications for the delivery of childhood immunisation programmes.

Dr Milena Marszalek is an SPCR NIHR funded Clinical Research Fellow at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health at Queen Mary’s University London (QMUL). Her research interests include childhood vaccinations, health inequalities and methodologies for evaluating interventions in primary care. She is a practicing General Practitioner in Tower Hamlets, an ethnically diverse and deprived population in North East London.
