Portraying pregnancy - film discussion panel: Private Life

Private-Life-still
Film cover: Private Life

Join us for this online film discussion of Tamara Jenkins' rave-reviewed comedy drama "Private Life" about a couple undergoing IVF and considering egg donation starring the amazing Kathryn Hahn and Paul Giamatti:

“This is a story you'll want to watch to its exquisitely compassionate ending: a wordless final-credits aria that …speaks volumes about the nature of minute-to-minute emotional survival.” TimeOut

Having a baby is not always straight-forward, and COVID-19 has compounded an already challenging situation for many.

The film has been chosen as one of The Guardian’s best 100 films of the 21st Century and was recently selected as one of their streaming gems during lockdown!

You can watch the trailer here and the film is available to view on Netflix in advance of the panel discussion.

The panel discussion will be held as a webinar on Thursday 25th June at 7.00 pm UK time, with a Q&A.

Panellists:

  • Isabel Davis, Historian of ‘un-pregnancy' or the 'am-I-aren't-I time': a zone of ambiguity in relation to pregnancy diagnosis, Birkbeck University of London
  • Carmel Dennehy, Specialist Counsellor/Psychotherapist, Reproductive Medicine
  • Sandra Hebron, Head of Screen Arts, National Film and Television School
