State-sponsored population control programmes: A new ph(f)ace of eugenics in Mexico
Exploring the legacies and continuities of eugenics in Mexico.

In this seminar, Dr. Sánchez-Rivera discusses the changeover from eugenics to population control programs and capitalist ventures during the second half of the 20th Century in Mexico. Special attention is given to the role of populist policies and the rhetoric of population control in relation to the discovery of petroleum reserves in the second half of the 1970s and developments in the pharmaceutical industry.
