This annual lecture is organised in honour of the life and work of Stephen Lawn.
This lecture is held annually from 2017 to 2030 in honour of Professor Stephen Lawn. Steve was Professor of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at LSHTM and an active member of the LSHTM TB Centre . He worked closely with the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre at the University of Cape Town (UCT), where he was based from 2005- 2012. Steve worked tirelessly to tuberculosis diagnosis and care among people living with HIV/AIDS. He authored over 270 publications and received many awards.
The 2025 lecture will be given by Dr Tereza Kasaeva, the Director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Programme. This year’s memorial lecture is titled Ending TB by 2030 - Challenges and Opportunities.
The Stephen Lawn Research Leadership Prize Winners for 2024 will also be present.

Dr Tereza Kasaeva
Dr Tereza Kasaeva, MD, PhD is the Director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Programme. Since 2018, she has been leading WHO’s work on norms, policies and standards on TB prevention and care; technical support to countries, including through the three-level WHO TB technical expert network; monitoring the global TB epidemic; promoting TB research & innovations and strengthening political and multisectoral engagement, accountability and advocacy to End TB.
Dr Kasaeva has more than 30 years of experience in public health and in leading innovative efforts for socially significant diseases, including TB, with over a decade with the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
