Dr. Sutherland is head of the tuberculosis case-contact (TBCC) platform and TB immunology laboratory at MRC Gambia. The TBCC platform is one of the longest running household contact studies worldwide and enables analysis of host-pathogen interactions across the spectrum of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and disease. Key projects include defining correlates of risk for development of infection and/or progression to active TB; development of novel diagnostics and understanding host inflammation in lung pathology and treatment response.
