Women & Health and their role in Lebanon’s current political crisis and Intifada
As part of the Women Leaders in Conflict Health Initiative (WLCH) global seminar series, this seminar will discuss two key critical themes in the ongoing protests since 17 October 2019 in Lebanon: Women & Health. It will first describe the nature of the multi-fragmented and highly privatized Lebanese health system and how “Health for all” has become one of the major demands of the protestors including women who are at the frontline of the “Lebanese intifada.”
The second theme will look into the role that Lebanese women are playing in leading the protests in confronting the deeply embedded patriarchal system that includes sexualization of women, harassment, and inequitable civil rights and nationality laws.
