World TB Day Symposium 2018

World TB Day

On 24 March, the world commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We take this opportunity each year to highlight contemporary research innovation and future challenges in a one-day symposium co-organised by LSHTM and UCL.

World TB Day Symposium 2018 – The Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance

We will be holding our symposium on Friday 23 March at the John Snow Lecture Theatre at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and the programme will run throughout the day, with lunch provided. For those who can’t make it in person, we will be streaming all of the talks live on the day – but please still register and choose the ‘online’ ticket.

Our theme for World TB Day 2018 is the challenge of antimicrobial resistant TB, and will include a debate that tackles the question: ‘do we need host-directed therapy if we have a universal drug regimen?’

By including presentations that cover a diverse range of topics (including: laboratory sciences, epidemiology, health economics, policy research and modelling) from world leaders in their field, we aim to encourage discussion and debate around some of the most important themes in our fight against TB.

After the final session we will hold a drinks reception.

F1000Research Special Collection for World TB Day 2018

We are excited to announce that F1000 will be supporting a special collection of manuscripts for the UCL-LSHTM World TB Day 2018 meeting.

The F1000 has partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Wellcome Open Research to support open research publishing platforms. Read more about the F1000Research publishing model here, or see this post on our website for more information. Or, this blog post from F1000 describes why they have established the publishing model this way.

F1000 submission We will release information on how to submit to F1000, including a dedicated link, in the new year. In the meantime, if you are interested, please do select the option for submitting a journal article when registering.
