Disability & Health – What’s the link & why does it matter?
There are 1.3 billion people with disabilities, and they frequently experience worse health than others in the population. A new review shows that mortality rate is over 2-fold higher for this group, which translates into a 15-year life expectancy gap. Health systems therefore need to adapt to better meet the needs of people with disabilities, to be able to fulfil fundamental human rights and reach global health goals. This talk will outline the key facts and debates, and also introduce personal stories and ongoing research from LSHTM.
