Operationalising the participation of refugees and internally displaced populations in research on GBV and gender equality: challenges and risks in humanitarian settings
16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence
In humanitarian settings, there is limited understanding of how to operationalise ‘participation’ of refugees in research. This means participation may be tokenistic, or assumed to always be positive. Based on a scoping review and interviews with practitioners who conducted research on GBV and gender equality using participatory approaches, this presentation explores the possibilities, challenges and risks of promoting refugee participation in research.
