From the statisticians forecasting sports scores to the intelligent bots beating human poker players, science has revolutionised gambling. But gambling has also had a huge impact on science and technology, shaping everything from probability and statistics to game theory and artificial intelligence.
Drawing on research for Adam's book The Perfect Bet, Adam will look at the long and tangled history between betting and science, and explore how gambling continues to generate insights into luck and decision-making today.
