Meet Colette
What is your role at LSHTM?
I am a Research Fellow in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health.
Tell us a bit about a project that you are currently working on?
I am based in Ivory Coast where I work as a Trial Manager on the Nets Transition Initiative (NTI) cluster-randomized trial in collaboration with Institut Pierre Richet (IPR). This project aims to evaluate the efficacy, safety and possibly, durability of two bi-treated long-lasting insecticide treated bed nets compared to standard long-lasting insecticide treated bed nets, in the face of threats posed by widespread insecticide resistant malaria vectors.
When and how did you start working on malaria?
I started working on malaria as a medical student in Cameroon in 2008. I went on after my graduation to work for 4 years as a General Practitioner, treating persons with malaria on a daily basis. Last year, I did my MSc summer project last year on inequities in the coverage of preventative interventions and treatment for malaria. It became crystal clear to me that there was still a lot to be done in the prevention and treatment of malaria in sub-Saharan African countries.
Where are you from?
I am from the North West region of Cameroon.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to be a teacher when growing up. I did very well in Biology and Mathematics and was looking for a way to combine both subjects with my passion for making things simpler than last time for others.
What’s your favourite place?
My favorite place is wherever my family happens to be.
‘When I’m not working, I am…’
Cooking and baking for my loved ones
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness
