Seminar
The Almighty Dollar? Quantifying the Effect of Social Protection on TB Outcomes
It is widely held that social protection programmes are effective at reducing poverty in low and middle income countries. Given the intimate association between TB and poverty, it would be useful to establish the role of social protection tools in the TB control arsenal.
However, until recently, few rigorous estimates of their impact on TB have existed. This seminar will present key results of a quasi-experimental evaluation of a Brazilian conditional cash transfer on TB cure rate and reflect on the questions these results raise for the priorities of TB control efforts.
