Book launch for Mad Knowledges and User-Led Research by Diana Rose

Please join the book launch for Diana Rose’s new book, “Mad Knowledges and User-Led Research”. This innovative new book, combines theory, research and activism around 'madness'. This event will include a panel discussion that will feature the author, Diana Rose, alongside Peter Beresford and Sue Estroff. 

Speakers

Professor Diana Rose  

Professor Diana Rose is a social scientist and mental health service user who undertakes research that examines mental health services from the perspectives of those who use or refuse them and takes this analysis beyond the clinical space. Diana is one of the pioneers of User/Survivor-Led and collaborative research. She has academic experience and also experience out of work and enmeshed in services. She is also an activist in the survivor movement. For twenty years, she lead the Service User Research Enterprise at King’s College London.  

Professor Peter Beresford  

Peter Beresford is a British academic, writer, researcher and activist best known for his work in the field of citizen participation and user involvement, areas of study he helped to create and develop. He is currently professor of citizen participation at the University of Essex and emeritus professor of social policy at Brunel University London. Much of his work has centred on including the viewpoints, lived experience and knowledge of disabled people, mental health and other long term service users in public policy, practice and learning.  

Professor Sue Estroff  

Sue E Estroff is a medical anthropologist in the Department of Social Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sue has Graduate training in Anthropology and Psychiatry. Sue has had collaborations with clinician researchers and other social scientists, contributing to her use  of mixed methods, both qualitative and quantitative, in various projects to date. Sue’s research has been primarily with clinician and social science colleagues working on exploring individuals diagnosed with severe, persistent psychiatric disorders and the service systems, treatment, life experiences, and public policies that impact their recoveries, or lack thereof. She is also the author of the much-accclaimed “Making it Crazy".
