​​Careers in Planetary Health​

​​This hybrid event will explore career opportunities in planetary health featuring speakers from various sectors including business, foundations, and international organizations. You will get the chance to hear about and discuss their career journeys, a typical workday, required skills, and how their roles contribute to planetary health.  

Speakers

  • ​​Dr Fran Harris - Dr Fran Harris is a freelance researcher in sustainability and food systems. She worked at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine after graduating from the MSc in Nutrition and Global Health. Fran now works independently with charities and other research institutions on small projects. She is starting her own business to accelerate environmental sustainability and social change. ​​

  • Ben Ryder, Wellcome Trust - Ben Ryder is a Research Manager for Climate Impacts & Adaptation in the Climate & Health team at the Wellcome Trust. In this role he works to develop and fund a portfolio of research initiatives to support the evidence base of climate impacts on health that can help identify vulnerabilities and underpin effective climate mitigation and adaptation actions. Before joining Wellcome, Ben worked at the UN Environment Programme and in a variety of consulting roles for clients such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UK Department for International Development, and European Investment Bank. 

  • ​Dr Keya Mukherjee, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations - Dr Keya Mukherjee is a Food Safety Specialist with the Food Systems and Food Safety Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Dr. Mukherjee coordinates the division's work on food safety foresight, where she uses "futures thinking" to identify and evaluate new trends and drivers with varying impacts on the global food safety landscape. She has authored a number of publications on key emerging areas in food safety. She is also part of the FAO Secretariat of the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), a body that provides independent scientific advice on various food additives, veterinary drugs, and contaminants to different Codex Alimentarius committees and FAO member countries. 

  • ​​Charlie Willans, Close Brothers Asset Management - Charlie is the Responsible Investment Analyst at Close Brothers Asset Management, where he primarily focuses on thematic sustainable research. Charlie started his career as an auditor at Deloitte before working for an impact fund in Uganda and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation here in the UK. Charlie has a BSc (Hons) in Natural Sciences from Durham University, he is a chartered accountant and holds the CFA ESG Investing Certificate. 

​​​​This event will be centered around discussions and questions from the audience. We welcome all students, researchers, and members of the public who are interested in planetary health or who want to learn about different career possibilities.​ 

Please note this event is held in LG24 for LSHTM staff and students. Non-LSHTM staff can attend online via Zoom.
