Seminar
Characterizing the spread of arboviruses from detailed outbreak investigations and aggregated surveillance data
Abstract:
Looking at few recent arbovirus outbreaks (chikungunya and Zika), I will review the challenges associated with the analysis of epidemic data and present statistical and modelling approaches to tackle these challenges. I will show how detailed outbreak data can be used to unravel the role of social structures, behaviors and space in the spread of chikungunya in small communities in Bangladesh. I will also present a framework to predict the trajectory of Zika epidemics from the analysis of aggregated surveillance data with a view to inform healthcare planning.
