Global Mental Health: Friendship bench - evolution of a task-shifting model
Since 2006, trained community grandmothers have provided evidence-based therapy for depression in communities across Zimbabwe and beyond from wooden park benches. Over 150,000 people have sat on a bench to talk to a grandmother in the last two years in Zimbabwe. And recently the Friendship bench team has had to evolve through a hub and spoke model to increase its reach within Zimbabwe and beyond.
