(In)Equity across the research continuum in interdisciplinary food system and nutrition research
This seminar will unpack the inequities throughout the research process, which can shape our approaches and solutions towards public health problems.
Inequities throughout the research process are increasingly recognized as shaping the approach and solutions identified to address public health problems. In this seminar, we will present an empirical example of unpacking these research inequities through an interdisciplinary lens.
We will explore results from a large systematic scoping review of Agriculture, Nutrition and Health literature (n=572) in which we characterised types of inequity and inequitable practices: inclusion; diversity; doing no harm; prioritizing context; humility; authentic partnering; and recognition of structural barriers.
We will look at the presence of such practices along the research continuum from conception of ideas, through to evidence generation, dissemination and ownership. We will also discuss our synthesis of proposed and implemented solutions identified in the literature.
This will be a space to discuss how employing better approaches can help equitably transform systems towards sustainable, healthy outcomes for all.
