NATCAN: A national centre driving improvements in cancer care and outcomes
This event will introduce the National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre (NATCAN). NATCAN aims to strengthen NHS cancer services by reporting on care and outcomes across the country. It is based within the Clinical Effectiveness Unit (CEU), an academic partnership between the Royal College of Surgeons of England and LSHTM.
NATCAN, established in October 2022 as a national centre of excellence, is the home of all ten national cancer audits. The audits use linked national datasets to provide hospitals with performance feedback, with the goal of improving cancer outcomes and the experience of patients.
This seminar will highlight the work of the Clinical Effectiveness Unit and explore the future challenges and directions for NATCAN in advancing cancer care by:
- Developing indicators to accurately measure hospital care and outcomes
- Implementing risk adjustment to enable fair comparisons between hospitals
- Enhancing reporting methods to provide timely reliable feedback
- Understanding variation in care and outcomes to drive targeted quality improvement
- Adopting a systems approach to driving improvement
