Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Disability: Are we meeting everyone's needs?
Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) is a core area of public health, with huge international initiatives aiming to increase access and improve quality of WASH globally. People with disabilities (an estimated 15% of the global population) are believed to have worse access to WASH than others in their communities, but the data are lacking. Islay will report the findings from five population-based studies in two Asian and two African settings, determining access to WASH amongst persons with disabilities at the house and individual levels. Lisa will share the results of a recent randomised control trial to increase WASH access amongst people with disabilities in Malawi. The seminar will be followed by a drinks reception and a chance to view a photo exhibition of the interventions.
