Youth researchers with disabilities conduct research on adolescent wellbeing

Youth researchers with disabilities in Nepal conduct research on adolescent well-being - lessons learnt!

The new Global Sustainable Development goals pledge that ‘no-one will be left behind’, and the Global Accelerated Action for the Health of Adolescents (AA-HA!) indicates that adolescents with disabilities one of these key marginal groups that could be left behind. Clearly there is a need for a better understanding of the life course of adolescents with disabilities.

This seminar will share findings from a recent participatory research project in Nepal which explored what adolescents with disabilities consider important for their well-being.

We wanted to embrace and operationalise the concept of ‘nothing about us without us’ adopting a rights-based approach which involves young people with disabilities in all aspects of the research process. This included the training of a group of youth with disabilities as researchers. The seminar will share lesson learnt from the process of training and supporting the youth research associates on their journey- both successes and challenges.
