Centre for Global Chronic Conditions Student Liaison Officers
Student Liaison Officers (SLOs) are selected each year as official representatives for the centre and act as the voice of the student body. We work closely with Centre management to carry out activities that promote the work of the Centre and strengthen links across LSHTM.
We, as a group of MSc students from different disciplines, aim to promote the prevention and treatment of chronic physical and mental conditions locally and globally. In the 2023/24 academic year, we hope to collaborate with other groups to organise events that engage and mobilise the student community.
If you have any ideas or would like to get in touch, please email Manar Marzouk, CGCC Student Liaison Coordinator: manar.marzouk1@lshtm.ac.uk

I am a current MSc Public Health student here at LSHTM. My background in neuroscience has led me to having a particular interest in chronic conditions of the nervous system and the brain. I am deeply committed to addressing health disparities in the diagnosis and treatment of non-communicable diseases and look forward to working with the centre to promote research and collaboration."
Ho Ying Edwina Sze
CGCC Student Liaison Officer
I am a third-year medical student intercalating from the University of Hong Kong and am currently studying the MSc Nutrition for Global Health. As a future clinician, I am interested in understanding chronic conditions through novel biomarkers and exploring new treatment options that are available. I hope to examine the nuanced considerations when translating new research on diagnostic and treatment methods into national or global health policies. In terms of chronic diseases, I hope to learn more about cardiometabolic research and the role of infant and adolescent health on long-term chronic conditions, such as obesity.
Leju Jansuk

A medical doctor who has worked in clinical and public health settings in Uganda and South Sudan for over six years before joining the MSc. Epidemiology programme at the LSHTM in 2023 through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship.
In clinical practice, he managed mostly patients with infectious diseases but also those with chronic illnesses. He ran a weekly chronic conditions clinic where he provided consultation for patients in chronic care and those newly diagnosed. In the public health setting, he implemented the HIV Care and Treatment programme in South Sudan through an implementing partner of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). His major achievements included overseeing the roll-out of HIV Self-Testing and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) services for the first time in the country’s programme.

I am currently completing my MSc in the Control of Infectious Diseases at LSHTM. My background is in social sciences, public health, and public policy. In 2023, I completed a BA in Global Health and Social Medicine at King’s College London. I completed a dissertation on “Examining COVAX’s Weaknesses in Providing Equitable Access to Vaccines: Perspectives of the Global South”. My interdisciplinary background has developed my passion for chronic communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, and COVID-19. I am interested in epidemiology, mixed-method primary data collection, health promotion, and health equity for vulnerable populations in lower- and middle-income countries.
I look forward to collaborating with the centre’s other SLOs to create events and promote education, research, and innovation.
