The funding listed here is for students registered on London-based programmes.

Please note that all travelling scholarships are subject to applicants checking current Foreign & Commonwealth Office advice, LSHTM guidance and LSHTM travel insurance (iTravel) regarding travel. Applicants should not book any travel without first obtaining clear guidance and approval from appropriate and relevant LSHTM staff.

Funding from organisations outside the School

This is to give students an idea of what alternative sources of funding may be available, please note that this is not an exhaustive list and we would encourage all students to undertake their own research. The scholarships team do not administer any of the following funding and are therefore unable to answer queries regarding these, please contact the organisations directly.

Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene

The RSTMH grants support early career clinicians and scientists from all disciplines of global health, and from any country. Further information on RSTMH grants.

The Horowitz Foundation Grants for Social Policy Research

The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy awards support scholars in the final stages of their PhD - that is in their research and dissertation preparation after their proposal has been approved by their committee. Further information on Horowitz Foundation grants.

Chadwick Travelling Scholarships and Fellowships

The Chadwick Trust was set up in 1895 under the provisions of the will of Sir Edwin Chadwick to promote research into public health engineering. The Trust's objective is to encourage students in the study of public health.

The Trust awards travelling funds annually to students of UCL or the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to enable them to visit, investigate and report on a current public health problem.

Fellowships of up to GBP 5,000.00 for MPhil/PhD students and up to GBP 2,500.00 for Masters students are awarded annually to any postgraduate student at UCL or the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine registered at the time the Fellowship is utilised.

The Colt Foundation Fellowships in Occupational/Environmental Health

Each year the Colt Foundation offers Fellowships to a small number of students for research into some aspects of occupational or environmental medicine. The research would be expected to lead to a PhD degree.

The Peel and Rothwell Jackson Postgraduate Travelling Fellowships

The Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel Trust offer travelling fellowships. The aim of the fellowships should be research, advanced study, or the acquisition of a new clinical skill unlikely to be available in the UK.

Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Scholarships

The Daiwa Scholarship is open to UK graduates in any subject apart from Japanese Studies. It is a unique, 19 month programme of language, study, work placement and homestay in Japan, following a month of Japanese language tuition in the UK. The Scholarship covers tuition fees and living expenses amongst other benefits.Further information on the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese website.

Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund

The Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund (CCSF) provides approximately 15 annual awards ranging from £2,000 to £5,000 to Canadian students pursuing academic and artistic postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. Further information on CCSF awards.
