Studies of AMR population dynamics in a low-prevalence setting

Dr Gunnar Skov Simonsen, MD PhD, will be discussing studies of AMR population dynamics in Scandinavian countries.

AMR centre event card

Scandinavian countries generally have a low level of antibiotic consumption, high infection control standards and low prevalences of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). National surveillance systems, extensive health registers and population-based longitudinal health surveys offer opportunities for detailed studies of early stages of AMR evolution. The seminar will present examples from Norway where alternative strategies have been used to study clones and plasmids in E. coli bloodstream infections, S. aureus colonization in the general population, and acquisition of AMR in hospitalized patients with a special focus on how results can be used to design interventions and formulate public health policies.

Speaker

Professor Gunnar Skov Simonsen, Head of Department, University Hospital of North Norway and UiT - The Arctic University of Norway
