Disability-Inclusive Social Protection: A Time for Action
About the seminar:
Around 15 per cent of the world's population experience a disability and over a quarter of households worldwide include a member with a disability. The UK Department for International Development (DFID), the International Disability Alliance and the Government of Kenya held the first ever Global Disability Summit this summer to galvanise efforts to include persons with disabilities in sustainable development.
In a follow-up to the Global Summit, an expert panel will explore the role that social protection can play in enabling persons with disabilities to overcome the barriers they face. The panel will include representative from from Development Pathways, HelpAge, Leonard Cheshire and LSHTM. At the event, findings from research for DFID on how to build disability-inclusive social protection systems will be revealed and an expert panel will respond and share their own international evidence, resulting in recommendations for action.
Join us for the discussion to advance this agenda, and for a drinks reception afterwards.
If coming from outside the school, please sign in at reception when you arrive, and a member from the Disability Centre will be waiting in the foyer to accompany you to the theatre.
